Type 2 Diabetes with risks on Lower
Leg.
What
are “Diabetes Foot” and its problems and what has been known about this?
Diseases
of the lower legs, such as
Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) or
Peripheral neuropathy (PN)
Both
are serious complications of “Diabetes”.
If known in early detection it may help reduce these complications, it is not
known that how early the diseases can get under way in such people who develop
diabetes at any stage.
Why does researchers work hard on PAD and PN.
The
“Researcher’s” all around the world are studying that how common PAD and PN are
in the people with diabetes, pre-diabetes, and normal blood glucose levels.
Results:
The
researchers conducted studies on 3,607 people above the age of 40 and older who
participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES),
a large-scale study conducted by the National Institutes of Health.
Studies:
The
Diabetics and other people had a physical examination and reports of blood
samples taken from the tests. They also had an examination of the legs and feet
to assess for PAD and PN.
Findings
The
Reports were very clear and the reports on PN and PAD were found highest in the
people with diabetes and lowest in people with normal blood glucose levels or
pre-diabetes. Those with diabetes
were about twice more as likely to get PAD or PN as those without the syptoms
of diabetes.
Shockingly
many people partcipating in the research and during the test learned that they
had diabetes, and thus these people were about as likely to have PN or PAD as
those who had been diagnosed with diabetes.
Limitations
of the study
Researchers
did not conduct the specialized and detailed blood tests that would have provided
more information about people with the ability to handle glucose and insulin.
As the participants were all age 40 yrs or older, thus the results may not
apply in any way to young people.
Implications
of the study
Thus to conclude “PAD and PN”
is a common disease in the people with diabetes and surely including people those
with undiagnosed diabetes, but studies relate that it is about the same in
people with pre-diabetes as it is in those with normal glucose levels. Efforts
to detect PAD and PN should focus on those with diabetes and those likely to
have diabetes.
We recommend using Diab-B Care
Diabetic Socks and hygiene for those patients suffering from PAD and PN.
